Hi Kunal,

Basically all these engines have a different uses and functionalities even though the ultimate thing is to run a supply network planning (SNP).

These engines are part of SNP 1.Heuristics 2.CTM 3.Optimizer.

The basic thing depends on the client and their business needs and the availability of raw materials , resources , class of business they do etc ..

Heuristics :-

Checks only if material is available or not after u run it , capacity level checking is not done here for capacity check u need to run capacity levelling again .

Is mostly run in companies where the material and the resources are not a problem at all they just need a rough cut idea of the demand and supply process.

Eg.Oil and gas industries usethis engine wherein they usually dont have capacity as problem only they need how much material they need for producing it .

CTM : -

It checks for both material and capacity when suppose there are 200 demands and ur capcity can hold only 1000/per it carries forward it or takes it back according to the resources availabilty .

Eg,Any beverage comapany during festival time when demand overflows and supply has some restriction this is very useful.

Optimizer :-

Here certain critical cost center settings and other finance oriented settings should be maintained for the system to take decision on the cheapest means of deciding on al the factors like material procurement , transportation lanes , and vendor etc.

So this is majorly used if cost is a major consideration for the client .

Eg.Companies like involved in FMCG products etc mostly uses this kind of optimizer engines.

Again there is no thumb rule for using fixed planning engines by these companies it purely depends on thier business , company policy and thier business policies and n number of scenarios for using different engines.

For example just visualize these as examples .
