Hi,
My client has a equipment number, which has dots in between the numbers like FX.105.400.
Please advice how to create a external number range, so that system should allow dots while creating equipment number..
Why are you not using an internal number range and store this special equipment number information somewhere as an attribute (within the equipment master, or within classification, if possible).
From my experience it is not advisable to put any logic to the IDs. As soon as the logic changes you will have at lot of work to do...the ID should always just be a simple number...

Martin
