Dear Guru's,

I have again into a problem with our SAP Production backup. We have two backups regularly running in the system, following are the details :

Single Cartridge LTO : Offline.

Tivoli Backup : Online.

The error is (It is same for both the cases i.e. LTO & Tivoli) -

BKI5005E: Tivoli Storage Manager Error:

ANS1312E (RC12) Server media mount not possible

Problem is the error is occurring in both LTO and Tivoli, whereas LTO is a directly attached device to the PRD Server.

For your King Info :

LTO cartridge has been changed to test the error. System has been restarted. But no luck as of now.

Please help me to get over this, the backup is failing for past 3 days.

System :

OS : AIX 5.3

DB : Oracle 10.2

SAP : ECC 6.0

Hi Arya,

Looks like your Tape not mounted, check with your backup team. Also, please check whether TSM server is up or not and check the TDP process.

Regards,

Arjun

Dear Guru's,

Many thanks for the quick reply.

Today morning I have found that the issue is with 'rmt0', it is showing "defined". All the backups are going through this 'rmt'.

A call has been logged with IBM support and already they are into it. They have called and taken the "snap.pax" log.

Will update on this time to time.

Anyway many thanks again.

Dear Guru's,

@Arjun : You are truly spot on!

The issue is very unique. IBM has lately solved the issue yesterday. It was indeed a Tivoli issue. A tape was dropped improperly in the Tivoli tape library on Friday night. So from that very moment every backup using Tivoli session has got affected.

Anyway all seems to be ok. We have now proper backup today after 3 days.

Many Many thanks for all your support and true advice.

Are you using different sets of init<SID>.sap for the different backups you take.

Check if the LTO is recognized by the OS.

  1. lsdev -Cc tape

Then take a file backup and test if that backup is sucessful.

  1. tar -cvf /dev/rmt0 testfile

  1. tar -tvf /dev/rmt0

Finally check the init<SID>.sap , check if the value of backup_dev_type is set to tape.
