DC/DR San replication with Oracle DB

Dear All,

We are facing strange issue in DC- DR scenrio.

DC Master server name is dcbackup1 & DR Master server name is drbackup2

DR is passive & will be activated only in case of disaster. We need to configure backup for DR.

SID.sap & SID.util are on SAN path ( /oracle/SID/102_64/dbs ) which are getting replicated from DC to DR using storage based replication.

DC SID.sap & DC SID.util are having server entry as DC master server. The same entry is reaching DR also due to storage based replication.

Now everytime when i want to run backup in DR i have to manually rename server name in SID.util.

Any solution for it to avoid manual intervention ???

Please advise

Mazher

Hi Mazher,

Though the replication is running, it wont be for all filesystems/drives. What I would propose to put a copy of of initSID.SAP / .util in local DR server local location (where replication does not happen) and point the path to same in your backup configuration files (.cfg).

Not sure if I correctly understood your question.

it might help if you provided more information, like operating system and backup tool.

But let me try:

Imho nothing will force you to use the same initSID.sap and initSID.util files for both DC and DR?

Why not call them, let's say initSID.utl_DC and initSID.utl_DR ?

And in case this proposal is complete nonsense, you might consider what I wrote in the beginning.

Joe,

OS is Solaris and backup tool is Veritas NetBackup

if we say initSID.utl_DC and initSID.utl_DR how initSID.SAP will pick on DR.

Thanks

When configuring your backup tool, you should be asked for a profile name.

Default will be initSID.sap or initSID.utl, but you may choose any name you like.

I am not famliar with Netbackup though.

hope this helps

if we say initSID.utl_DC and initSID.utl_DR how initSID.SAP will pick on DR.

We call brbackup like this from veritas:

brbackup -u / -r $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/initSID.utl_<ext> ...

So the -r option lets you specify any utl file you want.
