Hi Ram,

SAP Kernel 6.40 is not supported on Oracle 11g. Check PAM to find out the supported releases. So, as far I as know that you need to upgrade to 10g, first. Then upgrade to ECC 6. After that, upgrade the database to 11g and convert to ASM.

As an additional information, Solaris 10 requires update 6 or higher on Oracle 11g.

Hi Orkun,

is it good that can i go to SAP_640EX2 Kernel Maintenance so that it will support existing solaris5.9 while going for upgradation and mgiration.

added to this if i have SAP_640EX2 Kernel i can go direct upgrade from 9i to 11gR2 ...?

Hi,

if i have SAP_640EX2 Kernel i can go direct upgrade from 9i to 11gR2 ...?

Yes, you can perform such upgrade. New SAP Kernel SAP_640EX2 will be required in Target system which you want with Oracle 11gr2. You can refer page 10. of [Database Upgrade Guide Upgrade to Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2): UNIX|https://websmp209.sap-ag.de/~sapdownload/011000358700000333942010E/GUIDE_UX_ORA_UPGR_112_300.pdf] to get more detailed information about other requirements also.

1. Take an Export of Exiting SAP System (which is on oracle 9.2.0.8 in ur case)

2. Upgrade to new OS version, apply the required OS parameters/patches

3. Start Import process directly with Oracle 11g r2 DB SW and finish System Copy

4. Start SAP system after Applying 640_EX2 Kernel in new SAP System

5. Perform Post System Copy Activities

For ASM withing Oracle 11g R2, you can get more detailed information from SAP Note 1550133, which you already found.

HI aLL,

Just now i have gone through the notes SAP Note 1550133,Note 1289494 - FAQ: Oracle compression and Note 1436352 - Oracle 11g Advanced Compression for SAP Systems.

in note 1550133 it says SAP 6.40 release can adapt the features of oracle 11gr2 ASM, but the note 1436352 givesa limited support that minimum basis 7.00 support packs are needed for the feature of ASM

Kindly clarify me whether SAP 6.40 release is applicable for oracle upgradation to oracle11gr2 ASM and now the required packs are in series SAPKD64029(SAINT),SAPKB64021,SAPKA64021,SAPKITLQH18 and SAPKW35020 etc

Hi Orkun AND Bhavik,

i got the clear cut idea with note1398634 as

"Oracle 11g is released only with SAP products based on kernel 640 (640_EX2) or higher. There is no general release provided for older SAP releases 3.1I up to and including 4.6C. For these older releases, only an upgrade certification is provided for valid upgrade paths u2013 for more information, see SAP Note 1398634. For upgrade certification, the SAP kernel needs to be EXT kernel (for releases 3.1 up to and including 4.5B) or EX2 kernel (for release 4.6C).

If you have a 640_REL kernel, you need to switch to the 640_EX2 kernel immediately after the database upgrade to Oracle 11.2. We do not support running a 640_REL kernel with the Oracle 11.2 database.u201Du201D

So, i need to move on for 640_EX2 Kernel for the oracle 11.2 Upgrade as a basic requirement

by changing your SAP kernel, you might need to run SGEN if you want to avoid "compiling" messages and slow program loads.
