SNP capacity levelling logic

Former Member

I have noticed the following behaviour with SNP capacity levelling, when using weekly buckets:

- in week x I have an overload

- in weeks x-1 and x-2 there is no available capacity

- weeks prior to week x-2 are before the SNP production horizon

- when I backward level, the system is actually putting load onto week x-2 even though there is no available capacity

I assume that this behaviour is because the system cannot capacity level into weeks before week x-2, and so HAS to place load into week x-2, even though there is no available capacity that week.

Is this expected behavior?

Thanks for any advice on this...

Yes it is expected behaviour for backward scheduling, with this method the order quantities are moved from the availability date backwards into the past. It stops when it either reaches today's date at the latest, minus the defined horizons. So it attempts to smooth all periods to the percentage you set in the profile (e.g. 100%) leaving the excess in the last period.

You may want to try "Combined forward and backward scheduling" whereby the order quantities are moved both into the future and the past up to the planning horizons.
