Hi Basis Expert,
As per the SAP upgrade guide
Check the value of parameter shared_pool_size in file
$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/init<SID>.ora. If the value is lower than 150 MB, increase it to
at least 150 MB (400 MB is better), and restart the database.
I would like to know more in shared_pool_size and shared_pool_reserved_size value in SAP upgrade.
How this two parameter are related and what is the value recommended in SAP upgrade for the above two parameter.
Regards,
Anil Shenoy
Hi,
shared_pool_size should already be at least at 400MB as per SAP note 830576.
check your Oracle system, other Oracle parameters might be using wrong values.
so, these values are not only for an upgrade, for for day-to-day usage.

Hi Orkun / Deepak/ Eric and others,
Thanks for your inputs.
I refered SAP Note 556764 and 830576 and found that shared_pool_size should be atleast 400MB where as shared_pool_reserved_size should be NO MORE THAN 10% of the shared_pool_size as per SAP Note 556764.
In our Mock system the current values is as follows
SQL> show parameter shared;
NAME TYPE VALUE
-
-
-
hi_shared_memory_address integer 0
max_shared_servers integer
shared_memory_address integer 0
shared_pool_reserved_size big integer 104356380
shared_pool_size big integer 2G
shared_server_sessions integer
shared_servers integer 0
SQL>
Can you please suggest on the values for shared_pool_size and shared_pool_reserved_size before we start with the SAP upgrade and oracle 11g upgarde.
Currently the Mock system details are as follows
OS - AIX 5.3
DB- Oracle 10.2.0.4
Regards,
Anil.
Hi Anil,
In addition to information from Orkun,
What about reading the Oracle Documentation. It has an explanation for (almost) all parameters:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e17110/initparams235.htm#i1133851
SHARED_POOL_SIZE specifies (in bytes) the size of the shared pool.
You do not set shared_pool_reserved_size. But you can also read its description on the documentation.
You can specify the parameter in different values as mentioned in the documentation
SHARED_POOL_SIZE = integer
