SAP Migration

Hello Friends,

I am planning for a migration with below details

Source : Windows 2003 ,MSSQL 2005

Target : Windows 2008.MSSQL 2008

SAP : BS 2005 Systems (HA Systems)

What will be the best way to do this ? Homogeneous or Heterogeneous.

My assumptions are as follows

>copy the mdf and ldf files to a target Windows 2008 system

>install mssql 2005 and attach the mdf and ldf files

>with a master dvd perform system copy(Homogeneous)

>(The above steps are oterwise called OS migration)

>Then perform the database upgrade to MSSQL 2008

Is there any way to do this ? Please let me know your thoughts ?

Also please share any docs /pointers for the same.

Thanks a lot

Jac

Hi,

This is homogeneous system copy as OS and DB remains same, only the version of OS and DB is changing. Please check homogeneous system copy guide.

Thanks

Hello Sunny,

Thanks a lot for the answer, I was also thinking in similar lines.

The doubt I have is that what are the precautions we need to take take care when the database upgrade is done.

How it will affect the tables ? Is there any step by step procedure available.?

Thanks,

Jacob

Hi,

You need not to do any upgrade. You can install target system on MSSQL 2008 on cluster and import your database there.

Thanks
