Hi All,

We need to change the size of our online redo log file from Current Value: 52428800; Recommended Value: 286000000.

Can somebody guide how to do it using brtools in oracle 11g , sap netweaver 7.0

Also i am not sure about whether to increase the size from 52428800; Recommended Value: 286000000 as this will be a drastic change in the size. Is it we need to increase the size that big?

Please advice.

Thanks

Deepak

Hi,

For increasing the redo log size online in your system ; you have to create new log groups and members with increased size , then force some log switches so that the old ( original ones ) becomes inactive ; then you can drop them

PLease see the following link for more details :

http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/onlineredo.htm#i1006398

Additionally Refer Sapnote #309526 describes how to extend the online redo log files

Hope this is useful.

The size of the redolog file in EWA is good enough . You do not want frequent log switches to happen and at the same time you will not want a crash recovery to run for a long time .

To resize the redolog files follow the link:

The correct option for brspace is "moredo". Have a search for it.

brspace -f moredo -a resize -f all_rf -s 300

This will resize all redo logs to 300mb

Example thread with manual versions too:

Is it we need to increase the size that big?

If you have a high transaction load 300mb is not too much. But you can start with 200mb, EWA is just a recommendation. You should check the alert log for log switch occurences under load. Rule of thumb is 1-2 switches per minute.

Dear Michael,

The brspace command you have shared is very useful for us to solve "redo log size is too small" when we upgrade 10g to 11g.

The theard is old but good.

Thanks
