Updating license data not possible [Maintenance Package]

Hello,

In our satellites, the sdccn Maintenance Package does retrieve the maintenance license.

The log indicates:

Updating license data not possible [Maintenance Package]

But the Get License Data works with the log:

Fetch license data from destination SM_SSMCLNT001_BACK

Would you know why there is this "bad" behaviour?

Hello,

Yes I have read and done as documented in note 1533350 and 1280664.

But I do not understand why it say that it can not update the license with the first task and not the second.

The other thing that could explain is "No active master Solution Manager destination".

But I do not know what it means.

1. Get License Data Log (working)

20.12.2011 16:13:45 Update of license data completed from destination SM_SSMCLNT001_BACK

20.12.2011 16:13:44 > Reading 4 licenses from the SAP Solution Manager system

20.12.2011 16:13:44 > Local system number: 000000000310175360

20.12.2011 16:13:44 Fetch license data from destination SM_SSMCLNT001_BACK :

20.12.2011 16:13:44 > function module AGS_MK_SET_INSTALL_STATUS not available on Solution Manager

20.12.2011 16:13:44 Update of license data started from destination SM_SSMCLNT001_BACK

2. Maintenance Package (Not working)

20.12.2011 16:11:05 Maintenance Package completed

20.12.2011 16:11:05 Updating license data completed from destination [Maintenance Package]

20.12.2011 16:11:05 Refresh of service definitions completed from destination SDCC_OSS [Maintenance Package]

20.12.2011 16:11:05 > Service Definitions are consistent

20.12.2011 16:10:51 > Check consistency of Service Definitions

20.12.2011 16:10:51 > Service definitions are up to date

20.12.2011 16:10:44 > Not due, due every 7 day(s), last successful run 19.12.2011 14:46:33

20.12.2011 16:10:44 Delete old session and log data :

20.12.2011 16:10:44 > Next periodic task 0000002366 has been created to run at 20111222205000

20.12.2011 16:10:44 Maintenance Package started

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello,

I have set SM_SSMCLNT001_BACK rfc connection as master.

Now it works.

I do not understandf why get license does not need a master and Maintenance Data does.

1. Could you please explain why it was not workning with SDCC_OSS connection?

2. Why is it not possible to set SDCC_OSS connection as master?

3. For sdcc_oss rfc setting should I provide my S_user_ID or SDCC_NEW?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Hi,

Regarding the master flag check this note: Note 1075827 - Master Flag in SDCCN

The master flag should be set to your solution manager system.

You don't need to create two tasks: Maintenance package & Licesense data. Maintenance Package is the only requiered task for managed system for the common scenario.

Regarding SDCC_OSS questions, check : 763561 - Service Data Control Center (SDCCN) - FAQ

Cheers,

Diego.

Hello Diego,

I had read these notes but it does not answer my questions.

Note 763561 states:

A2: The 'Master' flag enables the collection of data from the selected SAP Solution Master system into the SDCCN data collection in the satellite system. This concerns

Data of non-ABAP components

CPU utilization data of virtual servers

Maintenance Package has nothing to do with that therefore it does not explain why it does not work when master is not set.

Note 1075827 deals also about these two datas.

With these notes it is not clear which user should be used for the rfc connection SDCC_OSS

and the implications of setting s_user versus generic user.

The only question that is clearer is that master connection is only set for connection to SolMan

but we could also interpret that there is a SolMan on Sap side (target of sdcc_oss).

1. Could you please explain why it was not workning with SDCC_OSS connection?

2. For sdcc_oss rfc setting should I provide my S_user_ID or SDCC_NEW?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi,

1) The maintenance certificate is fetched from Soution Manager. The managed system gets the maintenenance certificate from the solman, not from SDCC_OSS. check this: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_smehp1/helpdata/en/89/a7c08d740c4cffb491f98801f17d30/frameset.htm

Master system should be Solution Manager for all managed systems. this is important. why??. check Note 1280664 - Distribution of maintenance certificates: Troubleshooting

"SDCCN requires a unique master SAP Solution Manager to be retrieved from the data. In transaction SDCCN, specify the master Solution Manager. Choose Goto -> Settings -> Task-specific -> RFC destinations -> Settings. Maintain the master SAP Solution Manager from which the license data is retrieved by setting the master indicator when in change mode. Note the following: There should be only one master SAP Solution Manager."

2) Please check point 9 of SAP Note 763561 mentioned earlier. You have to use SDCC_NEW. This note is clear regarding this.

Cheers,

Diego.

Hello,

I have a last question for the old SolMan Techies.

In my old configs, I found my old colleague SUSER for this rfc connection.

Would you know if SAP used to recommend this or do you suspect simply a wrong config?

Thanks in advance for your answer.
