SAP OLAP Universe --> Limit Size of result set

Hi Experts,

Pls inform, the SAP recommendation for this option in OLAP Universe.

Parameters --> Controls Tab:

Limit Size of reult set.

By Default it is set to 5000 rows. Is it SAP recommendation is to set to 5000 rows and not more than that.

Q: Do we need to uncheck option? Impact : Is BW backedn has huge records say: 100, 000 rows, then all the records will come to Webi report which will make the report crash, thoughts?

Hi,

Uncheck the Limit Size of result set option in the universe.If you set the limit size to 5000 then BO report only fetch upto 5000 records in the reports.More then 5000 records can not display in the report if you limit size 5000.

Will it not affect the performance of the report, if the option is unchecked :: Limit size of result-set to 5000

Hi,

Performance can be improve by multiple way like on report side,universe,Database level.But if actual records in webi reports like 10000 and you set the limit size is 5000 in the universe then webi report display only 5000 records which is wrong.

If you know how many reports are based on the universe and maximum records limit then you can set the limit other wise uncheck always this option.

You need to ask yourself :

Will the business accept a truncated resultset showing only 5000 rows out of a possible 100 000 ?

So if in the BW-backend, if there are 1 million records in production environment. Then all the records will be fetched in the report. Will the Bobj portal (BI Lauch pad) support those many rows in real-time.

I believe the portal will display a message like "Page cannot be displayed" after trying to execute for long time.

Hi,

Not forgetting that BW OLAP engine has a 1M-cell limit (safety belt), that will need to be removed (application of EhP1 SP03 and above)
