Problem in installing Additional Dialogue Instance in Oracle

Former Member
0 Kudos

Dear Gurus,

We have our ECC Production server on Windows Server 2008 Server with Oracle 10g on a HA. Now I am trying to install an additional app server for load balancing.

So I choose to install the additional app server on my PI quality server which is having a very less load. Since the PI server is already running on Oracle 10g I started the installation using SAPINST for the additional app server and the installation is over but when the system is trying to start the instance it fails and the dispatcher stops.

I have made the entry for the new SID in listener and tns file . Whether there is any other things that I need to do ? or just guide me how to perform this activity on an existing server in which there is a instance running with the same DB.

Thanks & Regards,

Pradeep

Hello pradeep. I not reccomend for you installation additional dialog instance for Production system on server where

quality PI is installed. Do not mix Productive and Test landscapes!

Second you say

Since the PI server is already running on Oracle 10g I started the installation using SAPINST for the additional app server

it does not matter are oracle installed or not, Dialog server can work without oracle installed on same server, only oracle client needed during installation.

How you install this dialoge instance ? Do you have shared profiles directory from ECC server to your PI server ?

the instance it fails and the dispatcher stops

Post dev_dip and dev_w0 traces.

Regards.

Hi ,

Thanks for your reply , yes I do know that an oracle client is not required since there is an Oracle exists , I am doing this installation with the same domain administrator used for our production server. I am able to login to my PI server with my ECC production SIDADM user and the r3trans -d throws no error . I have also shared the global host profile to this PI server.

Please find the dev_w0 log

Is GEP the production SID ?

Is the CI instance able to login to database ?

Also check if <sid>adm and sapservice<sid> is assigned the group dba and oper . Also login as sapservice<sid> and check the environment dbs_ora_schema and dbs_ora_tnsname are set to sapgep and GEP respectively.

Also make sure the sapservice<sid> user is not locked and the password maintained correctly in the SAP windows service.

Hello Pradeep,

It is an SAPGEP authentication problem. Please make sure SAPGEP is not locked and password works fine.

Please take a look at below thread for other possible reason for this failure.

The user is not log just yet, but it will be if you don't fix the OPS$ users.

Check SAP Note 400241.

In anycase I can't find a reason for OPS$ users to be altered because of a DI installation...

Did you performed any other activity prior this error?

Is SAPGEP the right schema?

Juan

Hi,

Could you update the SAP kernel and then try to start dialog instance.

Many of the time updating the kernel helps in starting the dialog instance.

Hope this helps.
