Hi,

opening '/dev/mt0': The system cannot find the file specified

Can you check whether the tape address /dev/mt0 is mapped properly to the server. Also ensure you have tape device at this location.

you can verify the same using the command

mt -f /dev/mt0 status

If this returns the block size of the tape device , it implies you have mapped the tape address properly and tape device exists in proper locaiton.

Hope this helps.

Dear Deepak Kori,

Thanks for the support.

I tried this command it shows,

C:\Documents and Settings\dv1adm>mt -f /dev/mt0 status

mt: opening '/dev/mt0': The system cannot find the file specified.

Also, please suggest us how to verify the tape address /dev/mt0 is mapped properly in the server?

Hi,

The command which i mentioned above will check for correct tape address mapping as well.

Additionally you can check initSID.sap file for the tape address configured for backup and rewind process.

If the tape address seems to be correct, ensure that you have new tape in the address specified.

Hope this helps.

Dear Deepak Kori,

Thanks, I pasted the init file for your reference. Seems to be correct.

init<SID>.sap:

  1. address of backup device without rewind

  2. [<dev_address> | (<dev_address_list>)]

  3. no default

  4. operating system dependent, examples:

  5. HP-UX: /dev/rmt/0mn

  6. OSF1: /dev/nrmt0h

  7. AIX: /dev/rmt0.1

  8. SINIX: /dev/ios0/rstape005n

  9. SUN: /dev/rmt/0mn

  10. NT: /dev/nmt0

tape_address = /dev/nmt0

  1. address of backup device without rewind used by brarchive

  2. default: value of the tape_address parameter

  3. operating system dependent

  4. tape_address_arch = /dev/nmt0

  1. address of backup device with rewind

  2. [<dev_address> | (<dev_address_list>)]

  3. no default

  4. operating system dependent, examples:

  5. HP-UX: /dev/rmt/0m

  6. OSF1: /dev/rmt0h

  7. AIX: /dev/rmt0

  8. SINIX: /dev/ios0/rstape005

  9. SUN: /dev/rmt/0m

  10. NT: /dev/mt0

tape_address_rew = /dev/mt0

Even also the same problem occurs and tried with the new tape too, pls help us.
