SAPinst hung in the starting of the installation

Hi all,

I am in the process to install SAP NW ABAP Server with NW7 EHP2, in the first time the installation went fine till we reach the ABAP import which 26 import successfully and 3 failed. we try to redo the import again but it failed after some time the sapinst was hung during that process and we can not see any activity in the log.

We cleaned the file system again and start new installation it now reach to Install Common system file and the sapinst hang the message in sapiinst log shows

Hello Jafer,

Looks like uninstallation was not done properly. If the installation is still in step Install Common system file then please perform the following steps.

1. Stop Installation.

2. Unistall SAP instance using SAPINST.

3. Manually clear files under /sapmnt/SID/ and /usr/sap/SID if files exist.

4. kill any SAPINST or SAP process, if exist.

5. Start fresh installation using SAPINST.

I would like to contribute with 2 ways in which we were affected by the same error and how we resolved it.  We are on AIX7 - ORA

Error at installation: FAIL: NIECONN_REFUSED (Connection refused), NiRawConnect failed in

plugin_fopen()

The 1st issue.  
1) IBM services have many port entries in /etc/services.  In fact there is a section that basically invalidates all sap ports we, the SAP techies, have been using for years.  Did oracle purchased IBM, by any chance?  😉
2) So, we had to comment out IBM ports 3600, 3601 and prior begining the installation create the entry sapms<SID>  3600/tcp
3) We removed all installation files found in /tmp, also whatever was in /usr/sap, like sapservices, <SID>, etc.
4) Killed all sap processes.
5) remove /etc/rc.d/init.d/sapinit
6) reboot
7) re-install.   .... after that it worked like a charm.

The 2nd same error issue happened about 6 months after when Oracle ACFS were introduced to the picture.   

As we were progressing in the installation, eventually the server rebooted with no other explanation than the main error we are referring to in this thread.

Even though we applied the solution from issue 1, we still got the same error, over and over.

The solution was to umount the ACFS and install on a large JSF2 filesystem.

We were able to complete the installation, we stop the sap instances, tared the files /usr/sap/<SID> and /sapmnt, moved the or renamed them to something else, mount back the ACFS filesystems and untar the files so that now /usr/sap/<SID> and /sapmnt were on ACFS.   We finally started the SAP system and now SAP is  successfully running on oracle ACFS with the additional HA clusterware component in place.

Hi,

I check again and try it but without any luck, i try to start the message server manually but it failed again with the error message can not connect to port 3900. what it confusing me is that this happen with the installation which is run with the root user to create all what it required.

I found one OSS note but it takes about a password issue not about CONNECTION issue. DO YOU HAVE ANY CLUE ABOUT THIS?

Open services file in edit mode and make sure you have blank line created by pressing enter at end of sapms<SID> entry and save the file. It should solve your problem.

In SAPINST, choose SAP product and under Additional Software Life-Cycle Taks, you will find Uninstall option.
