I don't think SAP Basis guy should do it and not sure if someone can even suggest the procedure.

However, you can search in Microsoft site/google for the process.

Thanks

Hi,

You should not apply Windows service packs unless there is a SAP recommendation for the same.

All these servicepacks are tested internally for SAP products before SAP releases notes on the same.

Hope this helps.

This is not really true.

Note 30478 - Windows Service Packs

<...>

Latest 6 months after Microsoft releases a new Service Pack, all installation tests, upgrade tests and kernel tests are carried out only with the most current Service Pack within SAP. As of this time, you should perform new installations with the latest Service Pack only.

what is the recommended procedure, shoul we first update dev server then quality and finally on production server?

You can go with QA first , if everything goes well, apply on dev and then production.

Hi,

Ideal practise would be to apply service packs 1st of DEV, then QAS and lastly production.

ok, Thanks again!

As we all know many window update come to fix the problem, what is the best pratrice to update? autoupdate or when any issue come or proactively, update on immdiate basis?

Would be thankful.

What our Windows team does is, they check on regular basis whether any updates are available or not.

Autoupdate is definitely a strict NO. Then that team plans what is the best time to apply that update (when the customer is able to allow SAP to go down if a windows reboot is needed [most of the times it is needed]). Accordingly, SAP team gets involved to take care of SAP stop/start and things go on like this for each year.

Sometimes Microsoft releases some urgent updates which should be applied within some deadline. Accordingly windows/hosting team plans with sap basis team and the customer to apply those updates within a week or so.

According goes with planning, nothing autoupdate or immediate.

Thanks
