Virtualization of MDM staging server

Hi All,

We are going to virtualize the MDM staging server.

What exactly is happening: The server(s) will be migrated from physical hardware to a virtual server environment using the server migration application PlateSpin. The resulting virtual server will be an exact image of the physical server.

Question: Is the virtualization going to affect the performance/memory of the staging server. If yes, to what extent?

Any explanation would be helpful.

Thanks,

Ankush

Hi Ankush,

Yes, Virtualization is going to help the performance of system and system utilization too.

Maintenance gets reduced and physical memory maintenance is lesser too.

Also it takes advantage of parallel computing and has better disaster recovery.

However, the biggest challenge with virtualization software is that it must be very robust, efficient and compatible with all underlying hardware like CPU, Memory, Network, IO etc and different Operating Systems above it, without compromising on performance and computations. This requires significant investment in time and resources to provide a fully tested solution to customers.

A thorough analysis can only yield answer to this.

Thanks,

Ravi
