Hi
We're running two SAP BW 3.5 systems on Oracle 9.2 and would like to upgrade them to Oracle to 10g or even better 11g.
SP Levels are quite low (respectively SP11 and SP16) and SP upgrades would imply expensive regression tests.
Is there a minimum SP Level required for Oracle 11g ? The 10g upgrade guide mentions a SP9 minimum level for SAP BASIS but nothing is said in the 11g upgrade guide.
Are there some known limitations ?
Thank you
Hi,
The highest version shown in PAM for BW 3.5 is Oracle 10.2.

> Can I conclude there's no minimum SP level required and 11.2 is supported with NW 6.40 (BW 3.5) ?
According to the notes
Note 1478351 - Oracle 11g Support on UNIX: 6.40-Based SAP Systems
Note 1478059 - Oracle 11g Support on Windows: 6.40-Based SAP Systems
There is not requirement for support packages except for the fact, that you need at least on the level of the SR1 release. According to
Note 789220 - Support Package levels for Netweaver installations/upgrades
this is SAP_BASIS SP 9.
> The kernel has to be changed to EX2. Any possible impact or is that transparent ?
It is transparent:
Note 1058988 - 640_EX2 Kernels
However, you need to run SGEN after the update.
Make sure your operating system is on a proper version (HP-UX 11.31, AIX 6.x, Linux SLES 11 or RHEL6, Windows 2008 R2)

Suggest you to check the PAM first and one more limitation is there that direct upgrade from 9.2 to 11g is not supported by SAP.
Check the above limitation as well.

There seems no limitations on SP level. But you also try to verify some other things like whether 11g is supported for BW 3.5 or for corresponding NW release.
Thanks

Hi,
Upgrading your database to 11g would be a best selection since SAP has stopped support to Oracle 10.2.0.4.
Direct upgrade to the new Oracle Database 11g release is supported from 9.2.0.8 or higher, 10.1.0.5 or higher, 10.2.0.2 or higher, and 11.1.0.6 or higher.
For more details to upgrade to 11g refer
Note 1431800 - Oracle 11.2.0 Central Technical Note
Hope this helps.
