SAP Router

Hi,

Is it possible (and recommended) to install an SAP Router on the same server as SAP Solution Manager? Or is it esssential for the SAP Router to be installed and configured on a dedicated host which is seperate from any of the other SAP servers?

Thanks and Regards,

reena

Its very possible... depending on what sort of connection you'll have to SAP

Whats your plan?

Reena,

You can install SAPRouter on SolMan.

If you are going to go with SNC saprouter then you have to have your network admin add a rule to the firewall that will forward all traffic from 194.39.131.34 address that is coming over TCP port 3299, directly to local IP of your SolMan.

The admin also needs to allow 194.39.131.34 to ping the public address of your firewall to make sure SAP connection stays open.

There's a different slightly more involved process for installing VPN based SAProuter 486688. Also check out http://service.sap.com/saprouter-sncdoc

Hi Reena,

Yes, it is possible to install SAP Router on SAP Solution Manager host. Disadvantage is whenever you have SOLMAN host for maintenenace or down, you may lose connection to SAP for other systems also.

Dedicted host for SAPROUTER would be ideal.

Hello Reena,

Definitely you can install saprouter on solution manager. As a backup plan, you can install saprouter on other system and use it when primary host is under maintenance.

Hello Reena,

We can use SAP router connect to any server. But for what purpose you are asking.

Once you connect the SOLMAN, then only we can download SPs. Its not possible to connect to the router which is already in use.

Once we configure router, after that only we can configure maintenance optimizer.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. Here is our situation:

We have two networks / landscape which have no connections between each other yet.

- In the first landscape we already have one SolMan and Router configured and running perfectly well. They are installed on separate hosts which is good. We also have other systems like ERP, portal etc. on this network/landscape.

- Now, in a separate network and hosting location we have installed another Solman and ERP (as this is a different/new project). The SAP customer ID and installation numbers for these systems is the same as those of the above mentioned systems. Unfortunately we do not have a dedicated host in this second network to install the router and so we are trying to reuse the router that is already present in the first landscape. This is not working.

So, we are thinking of installing a new Router in the second landscape on the same server as the Solman server. That's why the original question.

At this point our purpose of the Router is not solely to communicate with SAP Customer Service. The main purpose of the SAP Router is to get the maintenance optimizer running and thus be able to download the SPS updates.

So, I think we must go with this option of installing it on the Solman server as this is possible. Any other better options to be able to download the support patches?

Thanks and Regards,

you can check the firewall which is blocking between the networks and open the port between two network systems to copy the sp's. Otherwise, you can install on dolman that should be good

Hello Reena,

As per my knowledge, each landscape should have separate SAPROUTER installed as each landscape's network is different. So, you can go ahead and install router in Solman to be able to download SPs.

My comment was based on the fact that when using a SAP router to connect to SAP via SNC/VPN you should locate the router on a DMZ (its all in the documentation). If that was the case then the router will probably be on a separate box.

Now if your router will be used to connect the two landscaped then its ok to have it in the solman server.
