Dear Nandi,

Catologs are used to define (for example, defect types, characteristic attributes, tasks) consistently for all clients or plants. If

you use catalogs, it is easier to record and evaluate qualitative data and describe

objects.

The QM component uses a two-level hierarchy consisting of code groups and codes for its catalogs.

The terminology is encoded mnemonically at the client level. The codes are made up of four characters, which in turn are

assigned to eight-character code groups. These codes can also be assigned to eight-character

selected sets at plant level.

e.g. if you want to create master data for Defects observed in process,

you will have to create Codegroups for Catalod 9 "Defect types". in which you will maintain all your process related defects whic will be recorded during results recording.

Catalog for Defects will be used while Defect recording for an inspection lot or while Notification creation,

Catalog for Usage decision will be used while giving Usage decision for inspection Lot.

similarly explore other Catalogs using

T-codes: QS41, QS52.

Amol

Nandi,

Catalog is a set of values to handle qualitative data. For example if you want to define qualitative values for inspection results, you can use color: (RED, GREEN, BROWN, etc). Or when you want to define defect rate for inspection, you can use these: (LOW, MED, HI).

Other example is for UD code (REJECTED, ACCEPTED, QUARANTINED, OK, etc).

This catalog not only can be used in Quality Management but also can be used in other module.

Since these sets can be used in many areas, they need to be stored in orderly manner, hence it is called "Catalog".

//hope this helps.
