No data fields are available in the OLAP cube

i was able to access data in Excel yesterday, but now all the cubes that i have created cannot be accessed by Excel any more and after authenticating and selecting the cell for the pivot table i get this error:

No data fields are available in the OLAP cube

i just hope this is some process in HANA that needs restarting and not some endemic MDX problem. if so, where do i look?

has anyone seen this?

BTW, shouldn't there be a single log on for the connection? i have to enter credentials twice: 1 when creating the connection and 2 when opening the pivot table.

Hi Greg

Easy answer first: you have to enter your password twice for security reasons, but in your step 1 (when creating the connection), you can choose to save the password with the connection, so you won't have to enter it again.

Regarding your question about "no data fields..." - can you share some more details on how you connect to HANA from Excel? Is it a direct connection to an analytical or calculation view using the ODBO drivers? Or do you have a SBOP Universe in between?

If you are connecting to HANA views directly, what do you get when doing a data preview from HANA Studio?

something/someone has locked my userid when i was recreating the steps in Excel (i don't think i have tried 'wrong' passwords, but i did try a ['wrong' user|http://misiorek.com/h/GMSnap206%202011-11-27.jpg]

Here are the steps:

1. Open [Excel|http://misiorek.com/h/GMSnap202%202011-11-27.jpg].

2. Enter [connections|http://misiorek.com/h/GMSnap203%202011-11-27.jpg].

3. Select [HANA cube|http://misiorek.com/h/GMSnap204%202011-11-27.jpg].

4. Select [Pivot cell|http://misiorek.com/h/GMSnap205%202011-11-27.jpg].

5. Enter credentials (see above).

I'm also not sure why I see these security messages:

[locked|http://misiorek.com/h/GMSnap207%202011-11-27.jpg], Microsoft [warning|http://misiorek.com/h/GMSnap208%202011-11-27.jpg], HANA [warning|http://misiorek.com/h/GMSnap209%202011-11-27.jpg], HANA db [warning|http://misiorek.com/h/GMSnap210%202011-11-27.jpg]

Hi Greg

Looks like you have a wrong password stored somewhere (maybe the OLAP connection from Excel?). Anyway, I unlocked your user, so you should be able to try again.

The "user locked" messages come from the HANA DB - after 6 logon attempts with an invalid password, you user is automatically locked for 24 hours. I'll be changing these defaults as too many sandbox users face problems and on a sandbox we can go with a "convenience over security" policy

W.r.t. your original problem with the "No data fields are available in the OLAP cube" - I checked the dmoney analytical view you are showing in one of your screen shots, and it just needed to be re-activated. It should be showing data now...

Juergen,

You are correct, reactivating the cube removes the error. Let's just call it a server side refresh.

Regarding security, I wasn't aware of 6 failed authentication attempts as i have tried only one dummy user once.
