S means it belongs to basis component.

XMB means exchange message broker.

This was an internal name for XI before it was released.

You really need not know this

You can see the switch of new when you compare transactions:

SXMB_MONI -> SXI_MONITOR

IFR was already explained.

there are two different transaction codes for message montoriing.

The SXMB:MONI follows the old naming convention with SXMB,

SXI_MONITOR follows the new one (like SXI_CACHE)

XMB could be: XML Message Board but i did not find an official doc.
