Hi Anila,

The clusterkey can be a string of characters.

It can be anything unique. You need to remember this key since it can be changed but cannot be reset.

Cluster key is used to add a BI server to the existing cluster (even if it is the 1st one in the cluster). Store it somewhere safe. Also refrain from using special characters (!,@,#,$,%,^,&,*) in administrator password and cluster key.

Hello,

Cluster key can be changed by using this option:

Login to SIDADM:  (Administrator can login)

Cd /usr/sap/SID/Sap_bobj\

./cmsdbsetup.sh

Enter the Node name.

Node name can be get it from usr/sap/SID/Sap_bobj\ccm.config.

SIANODENAME = "*********"

After providing node name- Continue (Enter)

The node will be stopped. Do you want to continue:     say (NO)

Still it will show you the cluster key details:

We can see current cluster key and we have an option to change cluster key

Thanks & Regards,

Hi!

Can no one just tell us what the Cluster Key should be?

Why all the cryptic answers and confusing installation manual.

The above makes me no wiser.

What FORMAT is a Cluster Key???

- "Cluster keys are symmetric key wrapping keys that protect cryptographic keys stored in the CMS

repository" - what??

- "Cluster Key is required to be able to cluster any node with CMS ." - well yes..

And the format??

xyz123

aaaa

???

Many thanks!!!

Hello,

As per the Administrator guide of the BI Platform:

"Cluster keys are symmetric key wrapping keys that protect cryptographic keys stored in the CMS

repository. Using symmetric key algorithms, cluster keys maintain a level of access control to the CMS

repository. Each node in BI platform is assigned a cluster key during installation setup. System

administrators can use the CCM to reset the cluster key."

I hope this helps.

Thanks & Regards,

Insaf

Information on this can be found on page 156-158 in the Administrator's Guide for BI4.0 Support Package 5.  Basically, it is used to secure communication between you Business Objects server and the CMS repository.

The Administrators guide says that this is a six character key which seems rather short to me.  I was able to enter one that was 26 characters in length when doing my test install though.

The Administrator's Guide has this note:
"On Windows platforms, cluster keys must contain two of the following character types: lower case, upper case, numeral or punctuation. Alternately, users can also generate a random key. A random key is required to be FIPS-compliant."

Another oddity that makes the security of this less than ideal is that this key is displayed in plain text in the SIA properties in the CCM.
