Backing up APO DP plannin area data

Former Member

I am using APO DP.

I know the recommended best practice is to regularly back up the data in a DP planning area to an InfoCube.

But what is the added value of doing this if a complete APO system backup is being taken regularly anyway?

Thanks for any advice on this...

Hi,

Back is required when CVC are deleted wrongly or transaction data is deleted mistakenly by users, then you get those data from dackup cubes.

these requirement can be solved from APO system backup but that will be a lengthy process, please check can you get the data for only few combinations(CVC) which got deleted with out disturbing to other CVC and check how you can get the data from system backup with time and procedure prospective.

Thanks

Kishore

Typically the complete APO system backup is taken on tapes and its a very lengthy process to recover data from tapes. The easy alternate is to have a backup infocube and have a daily backup so that with a help of standard SAP report programs data can be recovered from the infocubes within hours into the planning area depending on the volume of data.

The backups can be useful in 2 cases..

1. If the data or time series is accidentally deleted in production, we can recover data from the latest backup and run additional jobs if any to retrofit the data.

2. It can also be useful during testing of an enhancement in test box and you need production data. In this case we can restore a backup into a file from production, load it into test box and then perform the testing.

Hope this helps..

Nirmal.
