DB System Migration

Hi All,

We have installed CE7.11 in distributed installation with DB and app on different servers. Now the OS team says they are going to migrate DB Server to new server.

What are all points to be considered before and after migration.

Hi,

If you don't planning to move to a different OS, restore the database on the new host, by using homogeneous copy.

Hi,

Another approach:

In case all your file systems on DB server are on storage, you can look for an option of detaching the storage from existing server and attaching is to new server. Ensure that you maintain the same hostname on the new server.

Copy the host file and services file from existing server to new server.

Our DB Server does not have any storage and also the Host name and IP address will change after DB mogration.

Then best would be to perform system copy using R3load mechanism. Export your database on old server and import your database to new server.

I'd go and follow the homogeneous system copy guide (export and import the system using sapinst).
