Import and Syndication File limit

Hi,

Is there any import file size and Syndication File size limit in MDM?

If yes, can we control it!!!

I have XML file communication and i was asked what is the max limit of import and syndication file Size in MB!!

Please Experts, if anyone has any idea please help..

Hi John,

The below mentioned are SAP provided details:

For Import file size all MDM applications have a limit of 2GB for file size(Automatic import). Beyond 2GB, various failures may occur.So it is advisable to limit your source files to a little less than 2GB (subtract a MB or so).

As a general recommendation, importing a file of up to 200MB is preferable and performs better.

For syndication fileThe limit of the total size of the syndication is 3.4GB in MDM 7.1 and 2GB in MDM 5.5

The entire result data is read in the memory as one giant BLOB. This BLOB cannot exceed the limit mentioned above.

Using different smaller maps helps syndication under such a case.

Please note a lot depends on sizing,concurrent users,design and network,so these parameters vary a bit.

Dear John,

Import File Size,

For better performance and smooth running of the MDIS and MDS, the import file size should be around 5 MB and should not be more than this. As it could lead to MDIS and MDS outages unknowingly.

Syndicate File Size,

Same is the Case with the Syndicator, but here you can increase the File size to 10 MB. As it will not have much impact at the MDSS side but you need to be Sure that PI should be able to accept the file and should not get stuck in the PI Queue.

There is no limit to the file size.

The size depends on the machine you are running. If you are using a local desktop machine that is 32bit with MDM GUI installed, the file size i have check it goes up to 40mb ie XML file.

For file size 55mb it fails, stating an error No memory for operation.

This is for import.

So in syndication if you want to extract records, this depends on the number of records, you can generate one records per xml or entire set of records in one xml, this setting can be done in Syndicator.
