Hi all.
With 7.1 Solman, is a dual stack install now mandatory, or can I just install the ABAP stack?
Hello,
You must install ABAP and JAVA stack. There's no way you will be able to configure Solution Manager 7.1 without it. System Preparation, Initial and Basic Configuration, it all works with Java in several ways.
Even if you don't use anything in Java (Diagnostics, Technical Monitoring), you must have it installed.
Best regards,
Guilherme

Hello,
It doesn't matter whether you will be able to install only ABAP or not, but what matters is how can we use the product in a standard and better/best way.
We never know when we need Java stack at some time later. Better install both the stacks and keep the Java stack fully configured (at least initially, for e.g. the production client update etc.), in any case java stack in solman doesn't consume much of the resources and if you are really sensitive then you can test to keep the java stack down.
Once try to refer this one as well -
Thanks

You should be able to install the ABAP Stack and then if required install Diagnostics (Java stack) at a later time. I believe this is the same as it was before.
For more information on the limitations of the Java Stack on 7.1 - Please see Note 1478974 - Diagnostics in SAP Solution Manager 7.1

Jared
