Hello Expert
My system is running SAP EHP2 Netweaver with SQL 2005 SP4 database on Windows Server 2003 SP2.
My Database size was 600 GB, i have deleted the massive data almost 450GB then my database size was become 150 GB.
I have shutdown SAP instances and use DBCC SHRINKDTABASE command to truncate the database.
The process is still running almost 12 horus and have completed the 45%.
The user and Management require to back the system.
Shall I start the SAP instances while the DBCC SHRINKDATABASE is running ?
Please advise with your expereince!
Regards
Hello,
dbcc shrinkdatabase is an 'online' operation and can be executed when users are ON.
But it is resource intensive activity, so should be carried out when user activity is almost low.
Another option is I think you can stop shrinkdatabase operation anytime and you can continue later during next business off hours.
Thanks

Hello DatabaseSAP
Thanks for your answer !
This is our pick time and i knew that system will be heavily used.
I have down the instanced that DBCC SHRINKDATABASE process will finish soon but here takes long time.
How will speed up the process ?
How will kill the process whereas the CANCEL button is disabled ?
Regards
Hi,
Check http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic241295-5-1.aspx#bm241311.
For cancelling, use the task manager to kill the process/task.
Regards,
Srikishan
