MDG Version compatibility

Hi forum,

Most of the documentations say , MDG needs atleast SAP ECC EHP5.

In our landscape, we have scenario where one instance of ECC is on EHP4 and another on SAP ERP <6.0.

Upgrading these two to EHP5 would be time consuming and complex.

a.Is there a way, I can have a separate instance(independent box) with ECC EHP5 , which can be interfaced with ECC EHP4 and SAP <6.0 instances.

b.If yes, can single independent instance of MDG support 2 ERPs? Will there be any technical complexities ?

Any other other suggestions to mitigate this landscape to leverage MDG effectively are also welcome.

Regards,

Vinay.

Hi Vinay,

the answers depends on two questions:

1. Which features of MDG do you want to use?

2. Do you want to deploy MDG on top of an existing ERP or as standalone box?

Reg 1.

ERP 6.0 EhP4 already contains MDG for Financial data. ERP 6.0 EhP5 adds Supplier and Material data. This should give you an idea about which release to choose for your MDG system.

Reg 2.

The default release is only valid for your MDG hub system - the one system that you use for maintaining your data centrally. Other MDG client systems - meaning systems that are connected to the MDG hub and receive their data from the hub - do not have a default release. MDGs data distribution functionality is able to connect old systems, too. This is only a matter of configuration the distribution correctly.

Now, the answer depends on how you want to deploy MDG. It is possible to introduce a new system to your existing ones. This new system would be used as MDG hub only for data maintenance but not for any other business processes. Alternatively you can upgrade one of the existing systems to the required EhP and install MDG on top of the system.

Best regards

Michael
