Hi!
I am an SAP basis person with about 6 years working
experience.
I wish I could become a certified XI consultant.
Could you tell me
1) Do I need to learn mapping, ABAP, xml and java?
2) what will be the best path to the certificate for
a basis person?
Thank you for sharing your opinions.
Hi Jennifer,
I just meant that both would not follow the same learning path. As a matter of fact, XI coupled with BASIS knowledge would be an amazing combination in the job market.
cheers,
Prashanth

Hi,
Its ultemately the interest if you wanted to be a XI development consultant you can very well do it. But my suggestion it would be fine is you do XI technology consultant certification. That would be a add value to ur BASIS career check out this link

Hi Jennifer,
To be very frank, BASIS and XI are two different worlds altogether. The former is administration while the latter is development.
To learn XI, you must have knowledge on XML( absolutely!), and Java is highly preferred. In my opinion, I would say that XI is highly logic oriented, and creativity plays a big role.ABAP is not necessary, but useful.
Mappings, are basics in XI, which come with the technology. There is no avoiding it :).
As a basis person, an advantage you would have is that you would know the underlying structure, and thereby understand XI concepts would be a little easier. I would suggest taking up SAP's certified course, take classroom trainings and get first hand information on XI, before taking up the certification.
Moreover, SDN is always there to help you out, and you can find a plethora of information if you know where to look.
cheers,
Prashanth
