Pros of Lovs & hierarchy

HI GURUS

Can any one differentiate the usage of LOVS & HIERARCHY in universe and also the use in real time senarios

LIST OF VALUES

when user needs to filter data in a query based on specific object values, User can simply view the LOV of that objects and choose the value on which they want to filter the data.

USE : Eg if there is an object called country if u use as LIST OF VALUES then u will find an option while reporting from the object country which country u would like to do reporting

like in country object you can choose the country like india,china.............etc

where as HIERARCHY

Hierarchy is an ordered sequence of dimensions which is very helpful for multi-dimensional analysis of data.

E.g. time hierarchy.

Day->Week->Month->Quarter->Year

USE : here you can apply drill down /drill across also if u use these hierarchy in scope of analysis in query

Hi,

A 'list of values' is a picklist which surfaces at refresh time, to filter the query results during data fetch. Think SQL 'where' clause.

a hierarchy can be 2 things: 1) in a SAP BW integration scenario, it is a mirror of the characteristic hierarchy modelled in RSH1

2) in a relational universe, it can be a custom path between 1 or more dimensions to simulate a 'cascading' relationship between objects and their levels.
