In tcode SU01 we can create a user name that contains character . (dot), but is it recommended by SAP?

Hi,
The special character . (dot) can be used in the login Id as long as it meets the security policy for login Id's.

Yes, in SU01 you can create user names with .(dot). This is helpful in all aspects when your company n/w configured with LDAP authentication. in enterprise portal scenario also creation of user names with .(dot) will be very much helpful to assign roles.
So you can goahead in creation of user names.
