Problems deploying SAP GUI from Installation Server

Former Member

We have a batch file that has been used to deploy a GUI package to workstations for months without issue.

Lately we configured LSH, which initially didn't work and required a patch to fix. Once the patch was applied to the installation server, everything worked fine.

For the past few days I've been having problems again. When I try to run a batch file that calls a particular package to be installed, the SAP Installation window appears, then closes without installing the GUI or showing any error.

I get something really weird in the logs on the server:

14:56:30 NwSapFeiUt 1 Successfully started service using commandline parameter ">$4!9>4:4@;$#l!(:8?@#964!89l#$8!@16>?!#:1#@$>8>:@9;(1,18411191#>118($1(;#844@898(:,(8@(l(8>88l;84:@$,(9;8$,ll>($#8#,1l6?9#$#6>64?1!;@;:#691@(l;l86l4#;>>$(8(!#6,1,9@>l!,>(6>16,,6l:$;(4,l?>6#!(;:8:8#4#8>6!?994?l>,#?9,?@68;;l#$$#($??1:;9?!!>l((,,;#14(,?8@$1;;44!8;#(;:>$>(86@96l,,$:>$;:8$?l>8?1l??@(,(9:9?4;!$#(!9?4;:#8>@4>6?1;996(?866,!!:>9@(>>>1l#:(66l6$46l$8(@#19;:86>(>181?($$(l16,(>#8:(l:,;8:11!l4?98(1$$9((l1$l>(@(@?(?$#;#61l41@6;:>9;4?(l?61;;4>;>,4#!!:1841>:;?#9(8$9$#@,$>;l1,81@;@@6?:?(@;#l,11@;81>@$46$81$$ $:1$?>@@,8#!969l@99:$11,(@!@,@1!>:6$l9#$@8;;@$(@881$@;;$;?914#@8l>>!,!(!9(!4??!$:!9$(@9($(,968?(l(##;:?>8;8@l11!8#@1@8:#>;$881(68?#6$998:1(9>@96,@1>>;6:?>!6(6?(>>@#4?>,$,?,96$(l?:!!(l!:$:(8@8>(:91;,9>lll#,9>#>9(;9;,4;>#,l991:669?;,4?4l$,,l;?,#8#6(19l$#4@;9(9(@(96;!9@!96?;@1,6:>#(8!8!4!@,,8@>6!>l!>#l6#@:,1#;$8@>4@l?##6?#l!::l:$6!(1#(1@8198?@;;8!64(8:#46;l,6?8?:l,##!1#,:,8:64@8;(9>81l##689##?6;$l6!98(1(!#1??$1@6;?461#l8@?:66#9##@l,$46:1?4>;#9,69?!81:>;6,1,1$;8#$(?!,6,1$?@@88?(!,,l?@;>6l>>$;84>1?,$::#869$;8($1 :$96>@;1:4@9(#?4>?:?;($6!616@#,?88(:,:44@44!#44?1,,,9>(86>6l9$,l@?416?:!$:$16@;4414@l?(9;6l,@116l,9>6>:#!(;114>,##>9>>8l@"

This is when trying to install SAP GUI on a Win 7 machine.

If I try run the command /package, without specifying which package to install, it reports "this package cannot be installed as it contains components with failing prerequisites".

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Hello,

the problem is that your package references installation components, which have defined prerequisites. And those prerequisites are not met on your machine.

Look for the conditions which are evaluated to false right before the mentioned line in the log file. If you can't figure it out, open a CSS message and append the log.

Packages can't be installed partially, they are either installed completely or not at all.

All of a sudden this has stopped working again.

When I try to run my batch file, which calls the sap setup and points to the package, it says there are failing prerequisites.

There is nothing written to the logs on the server either, so I can't investigate this further.

Please can someone advise.

Thanks

Seems to be the same issue like in this thread:

Problem solved!

The package content which causes the problem is: "SAP GUI for Windows 7.20" -> "General Add-On" -> "Extention for Outlook Client Synchronisation" (or similar, only know the exact german term).

Simply remove this from your package (I had to delete and recreate the whole package), and the installation works fine!

Kind regards,

J. Walton,

The Note: 1587566 has had further updates to SapSetup_Patch.exe

I had same problem with Windows 7.

Applied the latest SapSetup_Patch.exe and am now working.

Check version of NwSapSetup.exe on your installation server. Current version is 8.6.1.70 which comes with the above patch.

Hi Bob,

I'm on 8.6.1.64, so I'll upgrade and let you know how I get on.

Thanks for the reply

Nope, exactly the same problem is occurring after patching the installation server to the latest version.

Any other ideas please?

Could password expiration or something have happened to where the LSH service is not running on the server?

Sometimes I also will find the LSH service acts up. Shows as 'running', but it's not granting admin rights. I have to then stop the service for about 10 seconds and then simply start it back up. Using the 'restart' within services however does not have the same effect. It seems you have to use STOP and then START.

Hi Bob,

I did as you suggested, stopped the service, waited 10 seconds, started it again, and now the installation gets further.

I get the progress bar, but nothing installs; there's no files being copied across.

The log shows the same error as in the first post.

I think at this point I'd setup another installation server and see if it will work w/o errors.

If it works, then either re-build your problem one .... or I suppose you could try running NwUpdateInstServer.exe /dest=
[your_problem_server executed from the working server. Maybe some files are corrupt.

Then make sure in NwSapAdmin.exe on the problem server you run a server 'Check'.

Hi Bob,

I disabled UAC, restarted, and now it appears that everything installs ok (although all I got was a progress bar, no files copying across).

saplgpad works, and I am prompted for credentials, but when I enter them and hit return, it just won't login...just says Loading data...in the bottom left corner.

Might have to go for a new installation server as you said.

OK...it appears UAC must be disabled and Remote Registry enabled for the GUI to be deployed with LSH on to a Windows 7 machine, according to my tests anyway.

Can anyone else confirm this please? I'll need to amend my deployment script and UAC policy if this is the case.

Thanks
