GUI 7.20 patch install from Installation server causes PC to always reboot

Former Member

Hi All

Each time i patch my Installation server I have an issue. Yesterday i downloaded PL8 for GUI 7.20, patched my server.

My workstation for the notfication of an udate, so i clicked YES install, system reboots and installs. ALL WORKS!!

But if a user does not click yes to update, ignores the message. The patch gets installed later on its own and reboots the desktop but it just cycles restarts. The PC will boot up until it gets to the login screen, then restarts, will do this for hours straight!!

Its happen to me the last 3 patches. The fix i've been doing is booting to safe mode, removing the GUI and then reinstalling and all works fine.

Like i said, people who are notified of updates and click YES are ok, its all the others where the GUI self installs the issue arises.

Any tips? I currently have a PC on my desk doing it, i would like a work around instead of remove/reinstall of GUI.

Hello Joshua,

As far as I can see, the patch 8 should update the nwsapsetup file to 8.1.6.71

After updating the nwsapsetupadmin to patch 8 ,check the nwsapsetup.log file in C:\Program Files\SAP\SapSetup\LOGs

it should read something like:

NwSapSetupEngine.dll: 8.6.1.71

NwSapSetupATLCommon.dll: 8.6.1.71

NwSapSetupUi.dll: 8.6.1.71

NwSapFeiUt.dll: 8.6.1.71

NwSapSetupEngine.dll: 8.6.1.62

NwSapSetupATLCommon.dll: 8.6.1.62

NwSapSetupUi.dll: 8.6.1.62

NwSapFeiUt.dll: 8.6.1.62

And i patched my server with Patch 8 and my Gui is the following

MAIN MODULE INFORMATION:

saplogon.exe

SAP Logon for Windows

720 Final Release

7200.3.8.1067

1271051

And thats patch 8? So why the heck isnt the files properly coming down?

I also checked the file version on my installation server is its the same 8.6.1.62, yet i have patch level 8 running.

Let me try to reinstall patch 8 on the install server

SO the install server complained that no new patches were found and again the main screen tells me Patch level 8 in the install server.

Is their a hot fix to PL 8? Maybe thats what im missing?

OK so now i got the file! Patched the server and now running nwsapsetup.exe version 8.6.1.72!

My workstation obviously is still X. 62.

I assume now my clients will be notified of the latest update and will be patched. I will monitor if the problem occurs or constant rebooting of the system.

Thanks JUDE!! You are the MAN!!!

I should see results in the next few days.

OK so i discovered another issue, kind of a big one.

When trying to install my package to a desktop i get the following error:

This package cannot be installed as it contains components with failing prerequesiists.

Background: I patched my install server with that patch file, users were notified of the patch, installed sucessfully.

I have a blank computer and want to install my package and receivec the error above,

I've opened my installation server, opened the package, made a change, saved it and tried again, no luck.

The simple thing would be to build a new package but if i delete my old one, all the user's to whom i deployed that one too will not receive updates.

Any help?

I restored my install server from before the patch and now new computers can install again.

So i decided to give this another try with PL 10!

So far so good, no non-stop reboots but i am having a new issue.

I have my package created and i have my line with parameters to run my package.

On a fresh built PC, no previous GUI installed. When i run my package i get an error saying, missing prerequisites and i cannot click my package.

Yet any system with a previous version, i can do so.

What is this prerequisite?

Joshua,

Get on board with the latest SapSetup_patch ... it's now 9.0.

See Note: 1587566

Watch out there are two downloads, the smaller one is Sapsetup only and the larger is combined Sapsetup and Autoworkstation udpate. If you are using autoworkstation update you need the larger download.

Hello Joshua,

What nwsapsetup version does the installation server show?

Ensure that it's patched to 8.6.1.70
