How do you modify a standard ESS service?
We have 4 new fields in Infotype 0006 - Addresses and i need to include these fields to the ESS screen.
Do i copy and modify the Dialog screen and then create my own service???
Many thanks,
Stephen
Hello Stephen,
a copy is a good idea. Though modifying the existing services would be the most simple way, the fun could last only until applying the next service pack, let alone the support difficulties ...
As you already mentioned, the typical way to apply your own changes is to create a new service. But, you have to take care for the dependencies. If, for instance, the pzm3 is used, you have to make sure that the correct service is called.
I'm not really sure, but it's worth thinking about: What about copying just the default theme 99 to another theme, e. g. 98, and changing the service file to use the new theme? You can apply your changes to the templates of the new theme without affecting the dependencies to other ESS services. You might only have to change the service file after applying a new support package.
Cheers,
TJ
