SAP IDES ECC 6.0 with Ehp4 on Windows with DB2

OK so I am about to try an installation on Windows 2008 R2 Server Enterprise (64bit) with DB2. Now although I have performed many installations of IDES Server on Oracle, this is my first one on DB2 and I absolutely have no clue how to go about installing the Database.

I have downloaded 51040240 to install DB2 on Windows. I have prepared the patched kernel (All I needed was to replace one file SAPEXEDB in DB6) the rest were already there as they are Database independent and hence there due to Oracle Installations.

JDK 1.4.2_09, Loopback Adapter, Virtual Memory, Computer Name and JAVA_HOME all have been taken care of.

An SAP note - 1265105 - states that I need to install DB2 by using: runas /u:Administrator db2setup.exe

Nothing about any batch file or declaration of system variables has been mentioned whatsoever! That is unnerving. It cant be this simple that I install it like that and go on to start SAPInst.exe and Voila!?

So could anyone put in me in the right direction? Thank you.

Hi,

As per Note 1265105, you could let SAPInst itself take care of the DB2 installation as well. SAPInst would prompt for the database software DVD to perform the DB software installation. Would be more simpler.

If you install the database software using SAPinst, the error does not occur because SAPinst creates the users and groups

Yeah I do have rest of the DVDs, as I earlier said I've done installations with Oracle, I wanna try it out on DB2. The SDN community is perhaps the most helpful one on the internet. Thanks everyone!

So I just download any two of them (in a pair), disable UAC in Windows 2008 and run SAPInst? So that is all that has to be done for the installation right?

Hello,

These are just DB installation DVDs. For complete SAP installation you will need other DVDs as well apart from SAPinst (I hope you already have them).

Yes, in short, start 'SAP' installation using SAPinst and as per process sapinst will ask you to 'include' DB2 software DVDs. Then in middle of installation, a phase of db2 software installation will be executed.

Thanks

So what you saying brother? I just run SAPInst, no installing the DB, no patching? WOW i wonder if it works. I did see a note - 1245456 - mentioning problems with Windows User Access Control but I simply have no idea why or at what point will I need to do all the things the note says I should do with administrator privileges!

Read installation guide. SAP on DB2 installation is not same like on oracle where you need to install oracle separately. on DB2, sapinst install database as well you just need to provide DB2 RDBMS and DB2 client DVD.

Sometimes problem comes because of UAC, you can switch off the UAC on win2008 before starting installation.

Thanks
