What is mean by PO -SO concept in SAP
This can be explained with reference to the business process you are configuring / dealing with.
PO = purchase order
SO = sales order
E.g. 1 - Customer wants to purchase 10EA from your company. This is his PO.
On the basis of this PO, your company staff shall create a sales order.
E.g. 2 - You want to use external vendor to deliver the goods directly to your customer.
You create a SO, with appropriate configuration, PO is created and sent to your vendor. Instructing him to send goods, on your behalf to your customer.
This is SO - PO concept, called 3rd party.
So, important is to know what these two (PO, SO) mean and then use it according to your business process.

Dear,
This is very general practice, if you have to buy any thing from market you raise a Purchase order (PO), either on Phone or physical(Paper), or via e mail etc. but all these are not mandatory document all the time to create the Sales Order (SO).
Sales order can be created withot any reference of PO also.
Just think what u do when you go to any Grocery shop to buy items, your concept will be clear very soon.
