Error-maintaing Reservation Characteristic in Resource (Capa Reservation)

Hi All, we are trying to implement Capacity Resolution scenario on APO SCM7.0

While maintaining Descriptive Characteristic in the Resource, we are getting error: u201CThe Reservation Characteristic is not validu201D (as mentioned in step 6). The related message number is u201C/SAPAPO/CAPREV003u201D.

We have done following setup:

1. Maintained the field catalog containing the required fields/characteristic (MATNR, WERKS, KUNNR)

2. Maintained a consumption group.

3. Maintained Capacity Reservation Group containing consumption group with all characteristic

4. Assigned the consumption group to the product master. (Demand tab page of the location-product). Assigned requirements strategy = 20 (Planning with final assembly) u2026 u2026 suitable for descriptive characteristics.

5. Maintained a (PP/DS) Time Continuous Resource

6. Need to maintain Capacity Reservation Group & Characteristic for the resource. For that we followed: Tab-PP/DS Bucket Cap. --> Button-Capacity Reservation. But, while maintaining Descriptive Characteristic, we are getting error: u201CThe Reservation Characteristic is not validu201D.

Query:

(a) When we do F4 in Characteristic under Descriptive Characteristic, we can view two columns Char. & Descriptive Char. In the column Characteristic the 3 fields are present. But against these 3 fields no value is present in the column descriptive Characteristic. Is it the reason for issue, If yes, what can be the fix.

(b) Is it required to assign Capacity Reservation Group to Resource? If yes, How/where?

7. In Demand Planning created a master planning object structure containing the descriptive characteristics. (also Planning Area)

8. Created characteristic value combinations that include the values of the descriptive characteristics

9. Created a forecast for the product using Demand Planning functionality.

10. Released the Forecast to SNP. The descriptive characteristic can be verified in product view (after clicking on the triangle).

Hi Milind,

Were you able to fix this issue? If so, can you share the details?

In our case, everything works fine in SAP development system and but we get same error that you got in our quality/integration test system. We validated that all transports moved to quality system without any issues.

Hi,

Have you selected ' From Time-continues Capacity' in the field Bucket Definition (PPDS Bucket cap. tab).?

Then in the capacity reservation screen, enter your cap.reser.group. Press Enter.

In the Descriptive characteristics, select any one of your 3 characteristics. Then Press button 'Select values'. You can see the maintained values in a popup. Select one or 2 values and click 'Assign' button. You can see the green ticks in the selected values. Once you click 'OK', you can see 2 columns added into your table for each selected value. 1- your selected values and other 1-Reservation release dates.

Hi Mani,

Thanks. We could select Descr Char. But, when we click on button ("Salect Values") we get the above mentioned mentioned error.

Hi Milind,

Have you maintained number range intervals for capacity reservations?

Please refer the SAP note 1073568 for more details.

Also, please check the following,

1. in consumption group creation you maintained the correct planning area.

2. You have initiated planning version for your planning area.

3. You have used the same planning version in your resource.

Since the Characteristic values in MPOS are linked to Capacity reservation Group through Planning Area, there may be some inconsistency in these settings only.
