10g Installation - EXTJOB ?

The SAP "Upgrade to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2): UNIX" manual points you you to the Oracle Note 334563.1 "Pre-Install checks for 10gR2 RDBMS (10.2.x) - HPUX PA-RISC and Itanium Platforms"

This script associated with Oracle note, checks for the UNIX user EXTJOB.

Why do I need this user?

Also in the file /etc/passwd .... Should it use the csh or ksh?

Should the user be part of any special UNIX groups?

One last question, what is an NIS user?

Hi

The user "oracle" is set up using Network Information Service (NIS)

or Network Information Service Plus (NIS+) and is not set up locally.

Hi

./bin/extjob

This is the executable for the EXTJOB (External Jobs, which allow you to execute OS-based programs from within Enterprise Manager). This is something you should be careful about. Do you use external jobs a lot? If not, then you should not even have this executable. In such a case, you can leave it in the directory but change the permissions and the ownership. The owner can be the Oracle software owner (orasoft, in our case) and the permissions should be rwx------.

The extjob user was not found in /etc/passwd file or the /etc/passwd has no read permission. You must add the user to the /etc/passwd file, if not found. NIS managed users are not recommended.
