how to perform system copy for XI without downtime

Former Member

Hi,

We would like to perform system copy for XI NW 2004

components:

SAP_ABA 640

SAP_BASIS 640

sap.com/SAP-JEECOR 6.40 SP17

sap.com/SAP-JEE 6.40 SP17

Oracle 9

unicode

normal procedures to perform system copy are:

1) use sapinst to export Java

2) restore db to target system

3) use sapinst to perform system copy using restored DB and Java export

*by using this way, XI will be down during Java export

I would like to know whether there is a way to avoid downtime for source system during java export?

Thanks

Hi,

you will be going ahead with the system copy attach/detach method.

Hi Jason ,

One thing you could have done is Install XI 2004 Fresh and then transport all the Scenarios in the New System.

But, I doubt if SAP still hosts the Older version of the Software .

In such a case , take a Online Database Backup and Filesystem Backup and restore it in the target System.

Try to start the System .

Its not an advised method , but since you want 0 Downtime , you can try it .

how to transport all of the scenarios?

do you mean that i can create transport of my settings on XI workbench or all java related to target?

i no need to use the OS filesystem restore, i can install on a new server.

thanks

If i remember correctly you can create the Java export while database is up and running, also keep in mind Java export wont take much time to export.

Hi,

yes. i can use sapinst to create java export when XI is up and running.

but the problem is, it will bring down the system at particular point where else we are using the xi 7x24.

Is there any way to avoid the downtime?

thanks
