SRM-MDM connection through a single user

Hi,

We have a scenario like we are maintaining same users in SRM and also in MDM and everything is working fine.

But our new requirement is that we want to maintain a single user in MDM system irrespective of any number of users in SRM,

we need to retrieve the data from MDM system through that single user, whatever may be the user is from SRM. Do we need any user mapping to the MDM user from SRM users to achive this??

Can you please help on this, we need it very urgently.

Regards,

Mounika.

Hi Mounika.

How do you use the integration between SRM and MDM, through Catalog or in some other way.

When you say you want to map one MDM user with all SRM user, what is the business scenario behind it in SRM?

Can you explain in detail?

Hi Bala,

The integration between SRM and MDM is through Catalog .

The business scenario is that whenever a user logs in and tries to create a shopping cart, the user should the get the details of catalog from the MDM repository. So, whoever may be the user, we need the details of the catalog to create shopping cart.

Hence we thought of maintaining a single user to retrieve the catalog data from MDM system.

Hi Mounika.

Which version of catalog are you using? Catalog 3.0 or Catalog 7.1

Hi Bala,

The version of MDM is 7.1 and Catalog is 3.0.

Hi Mounika.

First of all, what is the use of having the same username in both SRM and MDM. Are you using SSO-User management logic for connecting to MDM system.

If I understand correctly, you have to create the standard webservice call structure and mention the MDM repository's user name and password with other information in the SPRO settings to launch the catalog. So In that case you can share the same webservice entry to all the SRM users, So irrespective of SRM users, the catalog will be launched with the same MDM repository user.

Do you find any issues on this?

Hi Bala,

We are connecting to MDM through RFc.

So in this scenario is there any way of maintaining single user in MDM?

Thanks.!!

Hi Mounika,

You can use the Functionality TRUSTED CONNECTIONS in MDM for your requirement.

Check Page 317 from the MDM console Guide for more infomation on Trusted Connections

Hi Sowseel ,

Our scenario is different we are connecting to MDM from ABAP function module through MDM API using RFC connection.

So in this scenario is there any way to maintain a single user in MDM irrespective of any number of users in SRM to get the catalog data from the repository.

Hi Mounika,

As i know to establish connection to an MDM system with a single user, we need to use TRUSTED CONNECTIONS only

Check the below link which explains the configuration and programming for connecting ABAP-API and SAP NetWeaver MDM

http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/601ddb01-e5c8-2910-d981-b190b51fc...

In the above link check the page 7 for Trusted connections.

Hope this helps you....

Hi Mounika.

Looks like you are implementing a secured connection between SRM and MDM.

Few inputs regarding this.

As of SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment (CE) 7.1, you can create MDM destinations which establish connection between callable application and MDM Server. you can try this. With this approach, you have to mention the repository name, user and password and all the requests will be processed using this information. Have a look on the below link for more details.

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwmdm71/helpdata/en/4a/cdd7c31ca822ace10000000a42189b/frameset.htm

Or you can go ahead by creating trusted connections between SRM and MDM

Hope this helps.
