Hi,

I am looking for a comparison between the difference data migration options that we have available from SAP for data migration from legacy systems...(the use of MDM, LSMW other SAP tools)...

Inputs/Suggestions/documents/Links are most welcome....

Hi,

The SAP Import Manager imports the data in various format like Excel, Access DB, XML file etc.

For Data migration, you need to migrate the data from the legacy systems into one of these format.

For transfering the data from SAP to MDM, XI is used as it read the SAP data and converts it into required XML file.

For transfering the data into SAP, LSMW or BDC could be used.

SAP system like SAP-ISU come with transaction EMIGALL as data migration workbench to efficiently migrate the data.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Tanveer.

Hi,

I'm pondering the same thing...I'm working on migrating data into SAP xEM (Emissions Management module).

Somehow, I'm having so much trouble to utilize my 2 years LSMW + EDI middle ware skills.

Just wondering what's the tools available in Netweaver 04s?

Here're some specific difficulties that I encounter:

1. data mapping - unlike R/3 LSMW, I did NOT find any tool to map the source to target

2. data type - I can NOT specify data type...

Hi Renjith,

You can find more details about LSMW <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005vp/helpdata/en/ad/2d54a41d7011d2b42e006094b944c8/content.htm">here</a>. LSMW is purely a data migration tool that is used to upload data into your R/3 systems.

MDM is a Master Data Management tool which can consolidate, maintain centrally and distribute back to all the participating systems in the landscape. MDM has its own client tools for Importing data into MDM and exporting (Syndicationg) data from MDM. This tool can hold a "Single version of truth" for all your master data needs. Please check <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_mdmgds55/helpdata/EN/index.htm">MDM Help</a> for more details. You can also check <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/developerareas/mdm">MDM Home page</a> and <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs?blog=/weblogs/topic/14">mdm Blogs</a> in SDN.
