1. Item category like TAN, TANN, AGTX, AGN dictates -

a. billing relevance

b. pricing relevance

c. schedule line relevance

d. BOM

etc.

at line item level. So in one sales order you can have free goods & standard priced goods, this is because of item category.

2. Usage is a ABAP program.

TEXT is a type of Usage. In a sales order, material code is essential. But with program TEXT, use can keep material code blank and give ONLY material description. Thus USAGE give more options at item level.
