Patching new Solution Manager server

Hello

We are implementing Solution Manager on a Windows 2008 server.

I have gone through the Maintenance Optimizer which has produced a long list of patches I need to apply. I may be misunderstanding the use of SPAM but some of the patches it is recommending seems to have prerequisites which are not relevant for our system.

For example:

When I try to add "SAPKB70108 Basis Support Package 0008 for 7.01" to the import queue I get a message "OCS package SAPKITL437 does not match the current software component vector".

"SAPKITL437 ST 400: Patch 0027, CRT for SAPKB70108 and SAPKU50018" requires BI_CONT,706 but we are running BI_CONT 704 SP 0008.

The Optimizer did not recommend any upgrade to BI_CONT. Do I need to aplly BI_CONT 706 (& perhaps before that BI_CONT 705) for this to work? If I do then that makes sense, but should I not expect the Optimizer to cover all this and might I risk my system becomnig inconsistent?

Similarly to apply the ST upgrade I need to apply these patches:

SAPKU50017 BBPCRM 500 Support Package 17 for SAP CRM 5.0 SAPKITLRD4 ST-PI 2008_1_700 ST-PI 2008_1_700: SP 0004 SAPKITL436 ST 400 ST 400: Patch 0026, CRT for SAPKU50017

But when I check the Display List for SAPKU50017 it tells me a prerequisite is SAPKA70022 (which must be SAP_ABA 700 SP 22), but we are running SAP_ABA 701 SP 08.

I must be misunderstanding something here. Can anyone suggest what I'm missing or hopefully clarify the use of SPAM & the optimizer?

Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris,

The BBPCRM package SAPKU50017 have the following import conditions whichneed to be satisfied for importing the package in the system.

BBPCRM 500 T SAPKU50015

SAP_ABA 700 T SAPKA70021

SAP_AP 700 T SAPKNA7019

SAP_BASIS 700 T SAPKB70021

SAP_BW 700 T SAPKW70023

When we check for the equivalent packages I could see that the package

SAPKA70021 is equivalent to SAP_ABA,701:SAPKA70106, 6

Similar these are the equivalent packages

SAPKB70021 SAP_BASIS,701:SAPKB70106, 6

SAPKW70023 SAP_BW,701:SAPKW70106, 6

Since as the equivalent packages for 701 release exist in your system,

then you can define the queue with the package SAPKU50016 in SPAM

for import and SPAM will take care of these import conditions.

Thank You.

Thanks Markus

I found this thread ([|]) which also seems to be pointing me in the right direction (basically note 1274287 explicitly states that we need BI-CONT 706 & ST-BCO 400). If I'd read this note more carefully I would have seen that this is required.

These packages are currently being loaded with SAINT along with the new BASIS package so hopefully I'll be able to continue when this is complete.

Regards Chris

Upload all the patches and use SAINT to calculcate a queue.
