Backup best practices, experiences, etc.

We have successfully migrated to a new 520 i5 at V5R3. Horray!...really...can't contain myself...zzzz

Anyway...

As information, I have been away from SAP and basis for about four years. Due to personnel changes, I'm now returning to it. During the interim, we upgraded from version 4.0B to "SAP R/3 ENTERPRISE 47X110" (according to the system information on SMP). We have some out-dated kernel issues and I am trying to work through them as best and as quickly as I can.

Questions:

For those of you who aren't using remote journaling or HA, how are you performing your backups? I just ran across note 202593 (and 825473) which states that SAVR3SYS is no longer supported.

Have you written your own backup process(es)?

Do you backup to tape or to SAVF? We will be using 3581 LTO-3's (and, no, remote journaling and HA are not options in the foreseeable future).

Just curious, really about best practices, your experiences, etc.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Robert

Hi Robert,

From my understanding, Note 825473 provides a good backup solution.

Thank you,

Hi Robert,

as time goes further, really a lot of customers use BRMS in the meantime. The other ones are using small CL programs in order to backup to tape. A very few ones are using your SAVF idea.

... and quite a few ones are using SAVR3SYS - because it mostly works in the *RUN variant ...

If you still do have the programs and all infoapar PTFs installed I was - by now - always able to setup savr3syse - even when I don't like it myself ...

good luck,
