if we want to add one characteristics or key figures to mos what is the procedure to do with out losing the data in mpos can anybody explain briefly ?

If you want to add just a characteristic , then you can try to make the characteristic a navigational attribute of an already existing characteristic and that way you will be able to retain your data.

In case it is a new key figure , i think de-initialization and re-initialization is required and you have to load the time series values from back up cube. But , i have read posts /articles that say you can add key figures without losing data. Not sure about the procedure though

Hello,

From SCM7.0, you're allowed to add new key figures to an active planning area, by right clicking on the planning area in /sapapo/msdp_admin, and selet 'Change key figure settings'.

By this functionality you can add new key figure to the planning area without de- and re-initializing the time series data.

But there're two points you need to notice:

1)Transferring this kind of change to source systems may cause inconsistency between liveCache and database.

2)In case of any unexpected error during the process, if you do this in your production system, still a data backup is suggested.

Adding new characteristic to an active POS is not possible, except navigational attributes, which is added directly to the main characteristic instead of adding it to the POS.

So if you really need to add new characteristic to the POS, you'll have to:

1)Back up time series data for all linked planning areas.

2)De-initialize all planning versions of all linked planning areas.

3)De-activate the POS.

4)Perform the change to the POS, and activate it again.

5)Restore the time series data.

Hi,

To add keyfigure to initialized planning area you can use 'change keyfigure settings' option from //msdp_admin->right click

on planning area.in this case no need to de-initialize the plannin area.But for safe side we recommand to take back up

planning data .

To add characteristic to POS:you have to deactivate POS to add characteristic.

If you want to add navigational attribute you can add this without deactivating POS.But after adding attribute just activate

the POS to regenerate all generated programs.
