Riverbed and SAP GUI

Former Member

I have seen a few forums in this area about Riverbed appliances and the SAP GUI and WAN optimization, but there hasn't been any answers.

We are in the process of implementing Riverbed appliances throughout all of our locations across the country and Riverbed has an environment variable that we can use to disable the compression. Is this a SAP supported thing? I know with the 7.20 GUI, you get a popup when you disable this compression that you cannot remove.

Are there other things from a GUI perspective you can do with Riverbed and see performance increases?

Any information would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Hello Dale,

to answer your question: "IWe are in the process of implementing Riverbed appliances throughout all of our locations acrossthe country and Riverbed has an environment variable that we can use to disable the compression. Is this a SAP supported thing?"

The answer is No, this is not (yet) supported by SAP.

Hello Dale,

It's really not recommended to switch off the compression as you can read passwords and so on in clear text.

Hence the very intrusive popup message.

The performance benefit is more than outweighed by the security risks that are presented with such a scenario.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Hey Jude,

Are you saying that you actually have users that just have that popup message everyday and you can see dramatic performance gains by disabling the security?

Thanks for the information.
