Hi Sushil,

JUst a correction, Characteristic values should be filled in for material Variant on the MRP view but the KMAT. You can have as many variants as you want.

Thanks

Dear Amber,

True, i know about it.

Could you please let me know why the classification is maintained when you have already assigned the Kmat material at Basic Data - 2 and MRP - 3 view.

And What is importance of assigning the classes at the classification view?

Do all the classifications from SD, PP and QM are need to assign at Classification view.

Hello Sushil,

Just to add up , If you have Kmat setup for a material then it is set a material variant.

Eg KMAT Material = A (Configurable material)

Finshed Material = B (Variant material )

Configurable Material A will have class 300 assigned with characteristic values filled in.

Material B will have Material A in the MRP view,.

Now if you create a sales order for material A and enter the values defined in the characteristic, system will do a search for possible variants and will bring back Material A. In general it is used to find if there is any variant (finished material) in stock already with the same specs. A sales order can then be replaced with material variant.

If you do a search on help.sap.com for material variants, you will find a lot of information on it.

Thanks

Hi Sushil,

In basic View the basic information of material is maintained. K-Mat material is a configurable material so this characteristic of the material is maintained in the basic view.

MRP-3 is for material Requirements Planning so a strategy group would be assigned to K-Mat which would be make-to-order as the material will be configured as per order as well as period indicator is also maintained here as the requirement for the configurable items would be monthly, weekly or daily.

In variant Configuration first of all we define characteristics for the material to which we assign to a class and this class is assigned to Variants (300) which is also assigned to the material. So that when we will make a sales order K-Mat material Type picks up the characteristics according to the class assignments.

e.g. if we are selling a bike we will maintain its characteristics as Color, CC an we will assign these characteristics to the class. This class and the material would be assigned to Variants (300) and the moment we will make sales orders it will pick up the characteristics for Color, CC etc.

I hope this helps you.

Regards,

Ashu
