Hello Frns,
we will be integrating 3rd party FTP system using PI with SAP system for some sales order IDoc interfaces.
We have only way to access the third party system is VPN.I don't know how it works and how it's different from
normal FTP or SFTP scenarios ...
Please give me some inputs and the steps how it works & steps in establish connectivity ....

sftp is see burger adopter....sftp send the data to very secure way...
ftp is a sap adopter...

As far as I know, in the communication channel, you would still be specifying the standard FTP port (21). But you would need to configure the PI server IP address (of all 'n' number of cluster nodes if present) at the network / firewall setting to enable connection to the FTP server.
One more point would be to use passive mode while initiating the connection, as the FTP server would not be able to connect back incase of VPN (as firewall will not allow the connection), unlike active mode.
