Do you need a minimum BASIS kernel 7.0 to upgrade Oracle 9.2.0.6 to 10.2?

Hello William,

I am unsure if you mean do you need a minimum SAP kernel 7.00 patch level or kernel 7.00 versus 6.40?

As long as your planned OS/DB/Kernel combination meets requirements of note #407314 (Released operating systems SAP R/3 Kernel 6.x ORACLE) or PAM (http://service.sap.com/pam) for your product then this is supported including kernel 6.40 and 7.00.

What is the current product and Basis level of the system you plan to upgrade?

The first box we are upgrading is an R/3 system on HP-UX 11.11, using Oracle 9.2.0.6 (64-Bit) enterprise edition.

Here is the status indormation:

SAP-BASIS - 620 - 0052 - SAPKB62052 - SAP BASIS Component

By loooking at note 407314, it appears we have to do the minimum

- upgrade HP-UX 11.11 to 11.23

- upgrade the kernel to 6.40

- then upgrade Oracle form 9.2.0.6 to 10.2.0.2

Is this correct?????

That looks correct but the following combinations means you don't have to change from HP 11.11 unless that is planned anyway:

SAP KERNEL 6.40 64-BIT:

ORACLE 10.2 64-BIT HP-UX 11.11/PA-RISC 10,8

Note #664679 for upgrading from kernel 6.20 to 6.40, also the 7.00 SAP kernel is not downwards compatible with Basis 6.x systems.

I would advice checking PAM also for any extra restrictions for your product.

Regards, Mark

Dear William,

It is not mendatory to have Basis Kernel 7.0 for upgradation of oracle 9.2.0 to 10.2.0

Recently we upgraded oracle from 9.2.0

to 10.2.0.Our Basis kernel is 6.40.

Hi Akshay,

We planned to do the Oracle upgradation from 9.2.0.6 to 10.2.0.2.

The OS is HP-Ux 11.11. SAP kernel release is 46D, SAP Basis is 46C.

Before proceed, is it need to upgrade SAP kernel 7.00 and Oracle client version also. We have 2 application servers running on Linux with Oracle client 8.1.7. Anything to be done on Application servers, so that they will connect with upgraded database.

Thanks,

kumar

hi Saravana, it is not possible to run a 46C sap system with a 7.00 kernel (which belongs to webas by the way...you have a "simple" r3 system...), so plz do not (!!) upgarde you kernel to anything other than another patch level of 46D_EXT!!!

oracle 10.2 runs smoothly with sap r/3 46c (see post by simon above)...the kernel will be upgraded when you upgrade your sap, eg. upgrade to 47/erp2004/2005..then your kernel will be upgraded as well to the respective level (eg. 640 or 700)
