Experiences with bigger SAP installations on Citrix XenServer?

Hi all,

as there is no special virtualization forum I'm posting this thread here.

Are there any experiences running SAP with Citrix XenServer and Linux (e.g. SLES)?

What databases do you run, what VM sizing do you have, which Citrix XenServer Edition and version are you using?

Any best practices and "lessons learned" are highly appreciated.

Best regards

Matthias

Hi,

We are using XenServer Enterprise edition as well as citrix and HP IVM.

We had Application servers for ecc, crm and ep and solman on XenServer. OS is RHEL and db is Oracle 10.2

We never faced any issue with respect to virtualization.

Note 1519590 - Virtualization with Citrix XenServer

We were using Novell Xen (SLES 10 + 11) before but in favor to use only one virtualization are about to migrate everything to VMWare (not completely finished yet).

What I can say about Xen in general is, that networking setups can sometimes be quite annoying though I can speak only for Novell/Suse here. Between minor version updates the scripts how to set up multiple network cards/bridges was changed it's been pretty messy to re-set that up.

Apart from that Xen was working as expected, we ran at that time about 18 - 20 instances (ABAP + Java) on Xen.
